Werdna, it for my cousin doing architecture so I am assuming it is a recent version of autocad: Building and Design.

This laptop is 1. I installed it once a long time ago on a computer that just barely made specs. It was so slow it was painful and pretty much useless.

It also often requires some pretty serious video processing, which a stock laptop may struggle with. However I couldn't give you a definitive answer.

Having never used it, but knowing computers, i would say no. The processor is important yes, but the RAM and video card are going to be very important for something like this. I would guess 4gb is not going to be enough as this is standard in "mainstream" computers, so are 1gb video cards. I would not expect it to run well on anything "mainstream". I would not run it on anything less than an i5 i7 prefferable , 4gb ram might be ok with a new processor, but i would say gb RAM is needed, 1gb graphics card would probably be ok if the rest was high end, however if you buy good ram and processor, no point in having a crap graphics card, so 2gb would be better if you can afford it.

I bought an i7, 8gb ram, 2gb graphic card laptop alienware for a few K about 3 years ago, such technology should probably be about half the price now.

Thanks guys. Alienware laptop with an addition larger monitor would be the way to go. That is pushing the budget though. I suggested a desktop with customized high specs but apparently a laptop is preferred.

Posted: Mon Apr 22, pm. If you don't go for the high end stuff, be prepared for long waits on redraw and surface mapping functions, and texturing surfaces could be an overnight job.

What in cad are you trying to do? What version of autoCAD?
